Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a confidential and supportive process where I work one-on-one with students to help them navigate challenges they may face, such as academic stress, social issues, or personal matters like family changes or emotional struggles. The goal is to provide a safe space for students to express themselves, explore their feelings, and learn healthy coping strategies. I assist them in building communication skills, self-confidence, and resilience while teaching techniques like mindfulness and problem-solving.  Ultimately, individual counseling helps students thrive by providing support in both their emotional development and overall well-being.

Group Counseling

Group counseling provides a supportive space where students come together to address common challenges, such as stress, friendships, or anxiety. As a middle school counselor, I facilitate these groups to help students share experiences, learn from one another, and build social-emotional skills like communication, conflict resolution, and self-regulation. The group setting fosters empathy, connection, and the development of coping strategies, and while parents are informed about the group’s focus, the specific discussions remain confidential. It’s a great opportunity for students to gain support from peers and feel less isolated in their challenges.

Academics and Course Selections

Course selecting helps students create a balanced plan that aligns with their academic, social, and personal needs. As a middle school counselor, I work with students to select courses and activities that suit their strengths and interests. I encourage parents to be involved in this process, as your input is valuable in making decisions that support your child’s success and well-being. Together, we can ensure the schedule is well-rounded and helps them thrive. Feel free to reach out or participate in the conversation as we build a plan that works for your child.

Confidentiality Statement

Everything discussed in the school counselor's office stays in the school counselor's office until confidentiality needs be broken. There are 5 reasons that confidentiality may need to be breached:

  • You are harming yourself

  • Someone is harming you

  • You are harming others

  • There is a court-ordered disclosure

  • Asking for accommodations for gender identity*

In these scenarios, I will have to share information with other adults in the building, or caregivers. If the student does not discuss these things with me, everything will stay in the counselor's office. If I have to break confidentiality, I will keep the student aware of the steps that I have to take regarding their situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. For more information about the school counselors confidentiality stance, please refer to ASCA’s confidentiality statement here.
